How to Curve Text in Microsoft Word

In this article, we’ll show you different ways to curve text in all versions of Microsoft Word. Also, you’ll learn a useful workaround for adding curved text into Google Docs.

How to Curve Text in Microsoft Word?

The process of curving text is almost the same in all versions of Microsoft Word. You can do this by using the Text Box and Text Effects features.

  1. Go to the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon.
  2. In the “Text” section, click on the “Text Box” button.
  3. Highlight and delete the existing text.
  4. Type in the text you want to curve.
  5. Right-click on the text box border.
  6. In the pop-up menu, click “Format Shape.”
  7. In the “Format Shape” sidebar, check “No fill” and “No line.”
  8. Click on the “Format” tab in the toolbar.
  9. Click on the “Text Effects” button.
  10. Hover your cursor over “Transform.”
  11. In the fourth row of the “Warp” section, choose between the “Curve: Up” or the “Curve: Down” option.
  12. Click and drag the yellow circle to adjust the curve of your text.

Note: If you want to undo curved text, go to Text Effects > Transform and select “No Transform.”

How to Curve Text With WordArt?

Another way to curve text in Microsoft Word is by using the WordArt feature. With this, you can highlight and curve the text you’ve already written.

  1. Highlight the text you want to curve.
  2. Go to the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon.
  3. In the “Text” section, click the “WordArt” button.
  4. Select the style of letters you want.
  5. With your text highlighted, click on the “Format” tab on the Ribbon.
  6. Click the “Text Effects” button.
  7. Place your cursor over “Transform.”
  8. In the fourth row of the “Warp” section, choose between the “Curve: Up” or the “Curve: Down” option.
  9. Click and drag the yellow circle to adjust the curve of your text.

How to Center Text Vertically in Microsoft Word?

Vertical alignment enables you to place your text perfectly between the upper and the lower margin. To enable this option, do the following:

  1. Go to the “Layout” tab on the Ribbon.
  2. In the bottom-right corner of the “Page Setup” section, click on the small arrow button.
  3. Click on the “Layout” tab.
  4. In the “Page” section, click on the small arrow button next to “Vertical alignment.”
  5. In the drop-down menu, click “Center.”

Note: If you want to undo centering text vertically, go back to step 5. and select “Top”. Alternatively, you can press ‘’Ctrl + Z’’ immediately after you aligned your text vertically.

How to Curve Text in Google Docs?

Unfortunately, you can’t curve text in Google Docs in the same way you can in Microsoft Word. However, there is a workaround for this.

  1. Go to TroyGram Curve Text.
  2. Click “Enter Text.”
  3. Highlight and delete the existing text in the text box.
  4. In the same text box, type the text you want to curve. Note: The preview of your curved text should appear.
  5. Click “Select Font.”
  6. In the drop-down menu, choose the type of font you want.
  7. Select font size by clicking and dragging the blue circle in the slider.
  8. Click on “Adjust Text” and “Canvas size” to get additional formatting options.
  9. Once you finish creating your curved text, right-click on the image and select “Copy.”
  10. Go back to your Google Docs document.
  11. Right-click where you want to insert your curved text and select “Paste.”

Note: The curved text will be inserted as an image, so you won’t be able to edit curved text in Google Docs.

How to Arch Text in Word 2016?

Arching text in Word 2016 is very similar to creating a curved text. You can do this with or without using the WordArt feature.

Without WordArt:

  1. Go to the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon.
  2. In the “Text” section, click on the “Text Box” button.
  3. Choose “Simple Text Box.”
  4. Highlight and delete the existing text.
  5. Type in the text you want to arch.
  6. Right-click on the text box border.
  7. In the pop-up menu, click “Format Shape.”
  8. In the “Format Shape” sidebar, select “No fill” and “No line.”
  9. Click on the “Format” tab in the toolbar.
  10. Click the “Text Effects” button.
  11. Place your cursor over “Transform”.
  12. In the “Follow Path” section, select the “Arch” or the “Arch: Down” option.
  13. Click and drag the yellow circle in the text box to adjust the arch of your text.

With WordArt:

  1. Select the text you want to arch.
  2. Go to the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon.
  3. In the “Text” section, click the “WordArt” button.
  4. Select the style of letters you want.
  5. With your text highlighted, click on the “Format” tab in the toolbar.
  6. Click the “Text Effects” button.
  7. Place your cursor over “Transform.”
  8. In the “Follow Path” section, select the “Arch” or the “Arch: Down” option.
  9. Click and drag the yellow circle to adjust the arch of your text.

How to Curve Text in Word 2019?

This is the latest version of Word. The methods for curving text are the same as in Word 2016. You can curve text in two ways.

Without WordArt:

  1. Go to the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon.
  2. In the “Text” section, click on the “Text Box” button.
  3. Highlight and delete the existing text.
  4. Type in the text you want to curve.
  5. Right-click on the text box border.
  6. In the pop-up menu, click “Format Shape.”
  7. In the “Format Shape” sidebar, check “No fill” and “No line.”
  8. Click on the “Format” tab in the toolbar.
  9. Click on the “Text Effects” button.
