If so, then you know how unexpected and frustrating it can be. Suddenly, there are zero power options available, and you can’t even restart the computer or put it in sleep mode.

There are several possible causes for this problem, such as a corrupt Windows system file or a faulty Windows update.

We’ll address these issues, among others, by going down the list of potential solutions. The good news is that this is a fixable issue, but it may require a little effort and some patience.

There Are Currently No Power Options Available in Windows 10

If your computer runs on Windows 10, the “There are currently no power options available” could appear from time to time.

In many instances, this is a case of a power option glitch associated with a problematic update or a similar bug. Fortunately, Windows 10 users can easily troubleshoot this issue by following these steps:

  1. Go to the “Start” button and select “Settings” from the menu.
  2. Click on the “Update & Security.”
  3. On the left-side pane, navigate to the “Troubleshoot” option.
  4. On the right-side pane, select “Additional Troubleshooters.”
  5. Select the “Power” option under the “Find and fix other problems” section.
  6. Click on the “Run the troubleshooter” button.

The troubleshooter will perform a scan and look for problems. If it identifies any issues pertaining to the error in question, it will offer the “Apply this fix” solution.

Make sure to click on this option and restart your computer with the Ctrl + Alt+ Delete shortcut. Ideally, this process will do the trick.

System Restore Method

Another way to eliminate the “There are currently no power options available” error in Windows 10 is to perform a complete system restore.

This process rolls back your device to a previous point in time and repairs existing software bugs. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to the Start menu and enter “Create a restore point.”
  2. Click on the result of the search and select “System Restore.”
  3. Select “Next” when the “System Restore Wizard” screen appears.
  4. From the following window, select the most recent restore point.
  5. Click on “Next” followed by “Finish.”

If you’re lucky, the power button menu will appear again, and you can continue shutting down your computer as you did before.

There Are Currently No Power Options Available in Windows 11

Have you have recently updated your computer’s operating system, and it runs on Windows 11? Some users have found this change to cause problems with the power menu.

If you’re getting the “There are currently no power options available,” you might have to troubleshoot the issue. The process is similar to Windows 10 but has a few differences we’ll cover. To scan for power menu issues on your Windows 11, follow these steps:

The rest of the process is automatic, so all you have to do is wait and see if any fixes are available. Once the troubleshooter finishes the scan, select “Apply this fix” if such an option is available.

Don’t forget to restart your computer and check if the power button is back where it should be.

Using Command Prompt

If using the Windows Power Troubleshooter doesn’t work, and you’re still getting the “There are currently no power options available” on your computer, there are other solutions to consider.

You can run a command prompt and see if it yields better results. Here’s what you should do:

  1. Go to the “Search” icon on your Windows 11 taskbar or press “Windows” key.
  2. Right-click “Command Prompt” and select the “Run as administrator” option.
  3. Enter the “powercfg -restoredefaultschemes” command in the Command Prompt window.
  4. Press Enter and restart your computer.

Hopefully, the frustrating power error is gone and you have access to the power menu again.

However, if this command doesn’t work, you can run another command and see if it fixes the problem. When you open the Command Prompt as administrator, enter the following command:

“secedit /configure /cfg %windir%infdefltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose”

Make sure to press Enter and restart your computer again using the Ctrl + Alt+ Delete shortcut.

There Are Currently No Power Options Available Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown is a customized browser used in remote learning environments. It successfully deters cheating by preventing students from visiting other websites while taking an exam.

It seamlessly integrates with various apps and is available in Windows 10 and 11. However, some Respondus LockDown browser users have reported their power menu missing after installing the browser.

Namely, after they have finished the test and closed the browser, the “There are currently no power options available” error has appeared. Instead of closing the browser you need for the test, you can run the Windows troubleshooter.

For Window 10 users, that process requires the following steps:

  1. Click on the “Start” button and go to “Settings.”
  2. Select the “Update & Security” option.
  3. On the left-side pane, select the “Troubleshoot” option.
  4. On the right-side pane, click on the “Additional Troubleshooters” option.
  5. Click on the “Power” option under the “Find and fix other problems” section.
  6. Select the “Run the troubleshooter.”

Windows 11 users should follow a similar route:

  1. Press Win + I and select “Settings.”
  2. Click on “System” on the left-side pane on the pop-up window.
  3. Click on “Troubleshoot” on the right-side pane.
  4. Under “Other troubleshooters,” click on the “Power” option.
  5. Click on the “Run” option.

The troubleshooter will search for issues and report any potential bugs. If you see the “Apply This Fix” option, make sure to select it.

The final step is to restart your Windows computer using the Ctrl + Alt + Delete command and check whether the missing power menu has been restored.

There Are Currently No Power Options Available to Service the Logon Request

Sometimes, the only solution to the missing power menu is resetting your computer and returning it to factory settings. Thankfully, you can complete this process without losing any of your files.

The steps to reset your Windows computer are straightforward for Windows 10 and 11. So, here’s what you should do:

  1. Go to the Start menu and click on “Settings.”
  2. If you’re a Windows 10 user, select “Update & Security,” and if you’re a Windows 11 user, select “System.”
  3. Click on “Recovery” from the sidebar.
  4. Click on “Reset this PC” and select whether to keep your files or remove everything.

While you can choose to save your files, you will still lose some customizations and settings, so keep that in mind.

Bringing Back the Power Menu

Most Windows users shut down or restart their computers using the power menu automatically. They’re used to it being there, so when the “There are currently no power options available” error pops up for the first time, it might seem quite odd.

By running the Windows troubleshooter, you’re very likely to fix the problem, but it’s not a guarantee. You may also have to run a couple of commands in the Command Prompt and hope for the best.

The Respondus LockDown browser has been known to cause some issues too, but the same fixes apply. Finally, when all else fails, you can reset your computer, and it’s almost guaranteed that you will have your power menu back.
